Typical Day
-
Each classroom's schedule differs slightly, but most will include these basic events during their time at deLacey.
Circle Time
Children gather with the teacher as a large group. Discuss the day's activities and participate in calendar and weather activities. Teachers may assign classroom jobs.
Center Time
Children choose from activities in each center, which include dramatic play, table toys, blocks, art, sensory table, library, and computers. Learning is child-centered through play facilitated by the Early Childhood Team. Social skills and turn-taking are also emphasized.
Clean Up
Children will learn when it's time to stop an activity, put away toys and materials and learn to cooperate with others.
Meal
Meal time encourages communication between children, self-help skills, and good manners. deLacey provides the children with a healthy breakfast or lunch each day.
Movement & Music
Large motor skills are enhanced through using outdoor equipment, physical games, and gross motor activities. They are enjoyed in the multipurpose room or on the outside playgrounds. Children are outside daily. Music is enjoyed every day in the classroom through singing, fingerplay, and movement through music.
Small Groups
Children are split into small groups with a teacher or assistant to complete a skill-based activity based on the Work Sampling System, individualized plans, or a theme for the week.
Storytime
Teachers read to children in large and small groups, enhancing listening skills and memory and stimulating thought-provoking questions.
