Pick-Up and Drop-Off Procedures

  • To ensure not only smooth and efficient pick-up and drop-off procedures for your children, but more importantly their safety, please read and adhere to the following as it relates to the transportation of your children to and from school:

    • The vehicle should never be left unattended when parking in a temporary curbside parking spot.
    • Students should never exit a vehicle unless it is parked in a temporary curbside parking spot or a permanent parking spot.
    • If parked in a temporary curbside parking spot, parents must stay in their vehicle to wait for their child(ren).

    Morning Drop-Off

    Scenario #1 Procedure/Guideline:

If the parent would like to drop-off their son/daughter while remaining in their vehicle (kiss and go), the parent(s) should use the east parking lot. The parent should pull up into one of the temporary curbside areas to allow the child to exit on the curbside of the vehicle. After doing so, the parent should carefully exit the parking lot.

    Scenario #2 Procedure/Guideline:

If the parent would like to wait with the child by his / her class before entering the building each morning, the parent(s) should park in a permanent parking spot in the east lot. With parental guidance, the student should use the crosswalk and be led to the student line-up area. Students should not walk to their lines alone, nor should parents park their vehicles in temporary curbside parking spots in this scenario. Once students enter the building, parents carefully exit the lot.

    Afternoon Pick-Up

    Scenario #1 Procedure/Guideline:

If the parent would like to wait for their son/daughter while sitting in his / her vehicle, the parent(s) may wait in a temporary curbside parking spot until students are dismissed. Please pull up to the green cones. If so, you should wait in your vehicle as students exit the building. Parents carefully exit the lot after students board the vehicle. If all temporary spots are filled, parents may park in permanent parking spots so as to locate children to escort them to the appropriate vehicle.

    Scenario #2 Procedure/Guideline:

If the parent would like to wait for their son/daughter while outside standing close to/near the school, the parent(s) must use a permanent parking spot. Once children are located after dismissal, they are escorted, using the crosswalk, to the appropriate vehicle by parents. Temporary curbside parking spots should not be utilized in this scenario, nor should the west parking lot be used because it’s designated for buses and staff parking only.

Lincoln Prairie and the Lake in the Hills Police Department would like to remind you that it is unlawful to use a cellular telephone in a school zone. A person, regardless of age, may not use a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in an established school speed zone.
